Le prix d’achat du café au paysan ivoirien est fixé à 750 francs CFA (1,14 euros) le kilogramme, en hausse de 11,94 % par rapport à la dernière campagne.
Cette nouvelle offre vient confirmer la tendance de ces dernières années qui vu un relèvement progressif du prix aux planteurs, passé à 620 francs puis à 670 FCFA le kilogramme sur les deux dernières saisons avec pour effet « un meilleur entretien des plantations qui devait avoir pour conséquence, une augmentation de la production et partant des exportations », se félicite le gouvernement ivoirien.
Troisièmement producteur africain de cerises, la Côte d’Ivoire a une production estimée à 130 000 tonnes et ambitionne de passer le cap de 200 000 tonnes avant 2020.
Un objectif réalisable grâce à une nouvelle variété de café surnommé « café émergent » qui entre en production douze mois seulement après sa mise en terre, avec un rendement annuel allant de 2 à 2,5 tonnes à l’hectare dès la seconde année. Un niveau cinq fois supérieur à celui des plants traditionnellement utilisés qui produisent entre 400 à 500 kilogrammes à l’hectare en moyenne.
