Face à la baisse du nombre d’abonnés à la téléphonie fixe, l’opérateur historique sud-africain Telkom est à la recherche de fonds pour se consacrer aux investissements dans la téléphonie mobile et la fibre.
Sur cette base, la société a annoncé, mardi 12 novembre, être est en discussion pour une éventuelle acquisition, sans donner plus de détails.
«Nous sommes toujours à la recherche du bon actif au bon prix», a déclaré à Reuters Sipho Maseko, PDG du groupe.
La société, souligne-t-il, a déjà approché Cell C, troisième plus grand opérateur de téléphonie mobile d’Afrique du Sud.
« À l’instar d’autres entreprises de télécommunications africaines, le groupe essaie de suivre le rythme de la demande croissante d’Internet et des données associées à l’utilisation des smartphones », a-t-il déclaré.
Détenu à 40% par l’État sud-africain, Telkom a beaucoup investi, ces dernières années, dans ses activités mobiles et de data.
